Apply to be a Nanny, Sitter or Event Sitter

What is the difference between a Nanny and a Sitter?

Nannies are hired to care for your children on consistent schedules while sitters are hired on an as-needed, short-term basis, usually for a short period of time. This consistency helps nannies become a part of the family and support in the development of the children they care for.

Nannies can have responsibilities that go beyond child care, such as getting the children to and from places like appointments, planning fun activities, and helping the children learn. To do this effectively, nannies should be aware of the children’s emotional needs, interests, and disinterests.  Some of the duties include but are not limited to daily activities, bathing, making beds, meal preparation for the Children, taking the child to classes, playgroups and lighthouse keeping. All American Sitters represent nannies who are highly skilled, experienced and passionate about child care. All our Nannies have gone through our two interviews process, including a reference and dynamic screening process. We do this to ensure that we only refer to Nannies who are reliable, trustworthy and resourceful.

We Represent Sitters that have Outstanding skill sets, Up-to-date certifications, and Incredible childcare-related professional experience! We treat our Sitters as we do our Nannies and hold them to the Highest of Standards! Each Sitter has gone through two interviews process, including a reference and dynamic screening process. We do this to ensure that we only refer to Sitters who are reliable, trustworthy and resourceful.

Sitters tend to focus on the safety of children rather than the child’s life development, as they have a less consistent role in their life. With less regular hours, one sitter can have a handful of families that may call on them at any given time. They often work during the evenings, after school hours, sick children, date nights and sometimes morning.

If a sitter has a significant amount of child care experience and/or has any skills or certifications that parents find particularly valuable (e.g., first aid/CPR, multilingual, special needs), you may want to consider paying them a little more than the going rate.
